How do you use NuvaRing?

Wash and dry your hands, then choose a comfortable position. Squeeze the ring and gently insert it into the vagina; its exact position does not determine whether it works, provided it remains inside. You should not normally feel it during daily activities or sex.

The ring follows a repeating wear and ring-free schedule set by the product instructions. It does not need to sit over the cervix. A backup method may be needed when starting, changing late, or using medicines that interfere with hormonal contraception.

Set calendar reminders for removal and replacement. If the ring slips out, rinse it with cool or lukewarm water and reinsert it according to the product instructions; ask a pharmacist or clinician if it was out for an uncertain length of time. Never use a damaged ring.

Seek urgent care for chest pain, trouble breathing, coughing blood, a painful swollen leg, or sudden weakness, vision changes or speech difficulty. These symptoms can indicate a serious emergency.

Contact a clinician for severe pain, repeated expulsion, persistent bleeding, suspected pregnancy, or difficulty removing the ring. Do not force removal if it is painful.
