Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that loosens connections between surface skin cells. This can make skin feel smoother and may gradually improve the look of uneven tone, dullness, fine surface texture, or blocked pores. The strength, pH, contact time, and frequency determine how irritating a peel can be. It is not the same as a medical diagnosis or a treatment for every mark, including melasma or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Follow the product instructions, patch-test when appropriate, and do not apply it to broken, sunburned, freshly waxed, or actively inflamed skin.
