Neck Razor Bumps: What to Know

After shaving, a hair with a sharp or angled tip may grow into nearby skin instead of outward. This can cause an itchy or tender bump, a visible trapped hair, or darker marks after inflammation. Razor Bumps, also called pseudofolliculitis, commonly affect shaved areas. Folliculitis can look similar when a hair follicle becomes inflamed, while Keratosis Pilaris usually causes many small rough bumps unrelated to a recent shave. Pause close shaving while active bumps are sore. When you resume, soften the hair with warm water, use a clean sharp razor or guarded trimmer, and shave in the direction of growth with light pressure. Never dig out a trapped hair with unclean tweezers, squeeze pus-filled bumps, or scrub aggressively.
