What should you know about nausea relief bracelets?

Short answer
A nausea relief bracelet may ease nausea for some people by applying pressure near the inner wrist, but it does not treat every cause.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- What it does
- Applies gentle pressure near the inner wrist.
- What it cannot do
- Find or treat the underlying cause of nausea.
- Stop using it if
- The wrist becomes numb, swollen, painful, or irritated.
How the bracelet may help
These wristbands are designed to press on a point a short distance below the wrist crease. The pressure may alter signals involved in the sensation of nausea. It is a non-medicine option and is commonly considered when someone wants to avoid swallowing a tablet, is travelling, or has nausea linked to movement.
A bracelet cannot identify why you feel sick. Nausea can occur with stomach irritation, infection, dehydration, heat exhaustion, low blood sugar, or conditions such as Acid Reflux, Food Poisoning, Gastritis, Gastroenteritis, Gallstones, Hepatitis A, or Hypoglycaemia. The symptom alone does not establish any of these diagnoses.
Using it carefully
Place the pressure point over the inner wrist according to the product instructions, and keep the band comfortably snug rather than tight. Remove it if you develop numbness, tingling, swelling, skin irritation, or worsening discomfort. Sip fluids, choose small bland meals if tolerated, and avoid strong smells or heavy foods while the feeling settles.
If nausea keeps returning, record when it starts, what you ate or drank, motion exposure, medicines, pain, vomiting, and bowel changes. This gives a clinician useful clues and helps show whether the bracelet is helping.
When to get medical help
Seek urgent care for severe or persistent abdominal pain, chest pain, confusion, fainting, a stiff neck with severe headache, vomit containing blood or material like coffee grounds, or black stools. Prompt assessment is also needed if you cannot keep fluids down, pass very little urine, or feel markedly weak or dizzy.
Arrange a medical review when nausea lasts beyond a short illness, repeatedly returns, follows a new medicine, or comes with weight loss, fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or pregnancy concerns.
Questions for your doctor
Could my nausea be related to a medicine, reflux, infection, blood sugar, or another condition? Is a pressure bracelet suitable for me, and what symptoms would mean I should stop using it? What hydration or eating plan fits my symptoms?

Questions people ask
Can a nausea relief bracelet replace medical treatment?
No. It may provide symptom relief, but ongoing or severe nausea still needs assessment for its cause.
Can children use one?
Ask a pharmacist or clinician first, especially for a young child or a child who is vomiting or dehydrated.
