Nausea bracelet: what to know

Some bracelets use a button to press an inner-wrist acupressure point; others deliver mild electrical stimulation. Their purpose is symptom control, and benefit differs between people. Nausea can also come from reflux, infection, medicines, migraine, pregnancy or dehydration, so a bracelet should not be used to explain away persistent or changing symptoms.

Read the instructions, use the correct setting if it is an electronic device, and stop when it causes pain, burning, tingling that persists or skin irritation. Keep the device dry if required and do not share it without cleaning it. Take small sips, rest, avoid strong smells and choose simple foods as tolerated. Ask a pharmacist or clinician before using an electrical device if you have an implanted electronic device or a skin problem.

Get prompt advice if nausea lasts, keeps you from drinking, or comes with repeated vomiting, very little urine, dizziness or worsening weakness. Seek emergency help for severe pain, chest pain, trouble breathing, confusion, fainting, a stiff neck, a sudden severe headache, blood in vomit or black stool.
