What should you know about nappy rash with pimples?

Small red bumps may form where moisture and friction irritate the skin. Their appearance, location, and associated symptoms help distinguish ordinary inflammation from a problem needing treatment.

Nappy rash can cause scattered red bumps on skin covered by the nappy. A yeast-associated rash may be bright red, involve the creases, and have smaller spots around its outer edge. Heat, rubbing, or a reaction to a new wipe, detergent, or product can also produce bumps. Pimples do not reveal the cause on their own, and squeezing them can damage the skin.

Pay attention to whether the bumps are solid or fluid-filled, whether they are centred in the folds, and whether the area is hot, swollen, crusted, or leaking. Get urgent help if the baby is feverish, unusually sleepy, feeding poorly, difficult to comfort, or producing fewer wet nappies than expected.
