Mumps and diarrhoea: what it may mean

Mumps more typically involves fever, fatigue, headache and tender swelling near the cheeks or jaw. Diarrhoea occurring alongside these symptoms does not confirm or exclude mumps. It can increase fluid loss, particularly when fever reduces drinking or appetite. The colour and frequency of stool, ability to keep fluids down, urine output and alertness help a clinician judge severity.
