What should you know about MTF breast fat transfer?

Fat is removed from a donor area with liposuction, processed and placed into the breast through small openings. The transferred cells need to establish a blood supply, so the final contour develops as swelling settles. Some of the injected fat may not remain, and asymmetry or the need for a staged approach should be discussed.

This is different from Dermal Fillers, which use an injectable material rather than your own fat. The consultation should cover chest anatomy, available donor fat, hormone therapy, previous surgery, screening and the appearance you want.

Choose a qualified surgical team and share your medical history, medicines, nicotine use, allergies and plans for future procedures. Ask where fat will be taken, how scars are handled, what support garments are needed and how follow-up is arranged.

Expect bruising, swelling and soreness in both the donor and breast areas during recovery. Follow wound-care and activity instructions, avoid pressure on healing areas as advised, and attend scheduled reviews so changes in contour can be assessed.

Contact the team promptly for increasing redness, warmth, drainage, wound separation, worsening one-sided swelling or pain that is not settling. Seek urgent help for chest pain, breathlessness, fainting, sudden confusion or a swollen painful leg.
