What should you know about motion dizziness?

Short answer
Motion dizziness can occur when signals from your eyes and inner ear disagree, but persistent or severe dizziness needs medical assessment.

Why movement may trigger dizziness
Turning your head, travelling, or standing can make the brain receive conflicting information about motion and balance. The sensation may be spinning, swaying, lightheadedness, or feeling faint. Inner-ear positional vertigo is one possible cause, while dehydration, heat exhaustion, low blood glucose, anaemia, anxiety, or a heart-rhythm problem can cause other forms of dizziness. The feeling alone cannot identify the cause.
What may help
Sit or lie down as soon as you feel unsteady, and avoid driving, heights, or machinery until the sensation has passed. Move your head slowly, drink fluids if you can, and eat a regular snack if you have missed a meal and can safely do so. Note whether the sensation is spinning or faintness, what movement triggers it, how long it lasts, and any hearing, vision, chest, or neurological symptoms.
When to seek urgent care
Get urgent help for dizziness with chest pain, trouble breathing, fainting, a new severe headache, one-sided weakness, facial drooping, speech trouble, confusion, or difficulty walking. Arrange an appointment when episodes recur, follow a head injury, occur with palpitations, or continue despite rest and fluids.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your pattern suggests an inner-ear problem, dehydration, blood-glucose issue, anaemia, anxiety, or a rhythm concern. Ask whether you need an ear examination, blood tests, heart tracing, or balance assessment, and which activities are safe during episodes.

Questions people ask
Is motion dizziness always vertigo?
No. Vertigo is a spinning sensation; dizziness can also feel like swaying or faintness and has several possible causes.
Can dehydration cause dizziness with movement?
Yes, fluid loss can reduce circulation and make standing or travelling feel worse. Persistent symptoms still need assessment.
