Most Effective Silicone Scar Sheets

A silicone gel sheet creates a flexible covering over a healed scar. This can soften and flatten some raised scars and may reduce itch, tightness, or colour contrast over time. Sheets are used on closed skin, not on an open wound, scab, infection, or area with active drainage. They cannot erase every scar, and a scar’s age, depth, location, and tendency to become raised affect the response.

Clean and dry the scar before applying the sheet, then trim it so it covers the scar with a small border without pulling the surrounding skin. Follow the product or clinician’s instructions about wear and cleaning. Build up use gradually if the skin is sensitive. Remove it and wash the area if burning, blistering, marked redness, or a spreading rash develops. Protect the scar from sun exposure, since darkening can make it more noticeable while it matures. Keep the sheet clean and replace it when it no longer adheres.
