What should you know about mosquito bite like rash?

Bumps that appear after a new product or fabric may fit [Contact Dermatitis](/conditions/contact-dermatitis/). Itchy patches in flexures can occur with [Atopic Dermatitis](/conditions/atopic-dermatitis/), while heat and sweating can trigger [Heat Rash](/conditions/heat-rash/). A ring-shaped, scaly patch may suggest [Ringworm](/conditions/ringworm/), and intense night itch affecting household contacts raises the question of [Scabies](/conditions/scabies/).

Other possibilities include [Drug Rash](/conditions/drug-eruption/), [Intertrigo](/conditions/intertrigo/) in skin folds, or [Psoriasis](/conditions/psoriasis/). These conditions do not all need the same treatment, so avoid diagnosing from a photograph alone.

Note when the rash began, where it started, whether it is spreading, and any new medicines, foods, products, travel, heat or household itching. Use gentle cleansing, avoid scratching and pause newly introduced fragranced products. Cool compresses may soothe itch. Do not apply steroid, antifungal or antibiotic creams without advice when the cause is unclear.

Arrange assessment if the rash persists, spreads, recurs, becomes scaly or painful, or disrupts sleep. Seek urgent help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, blistering, skin peeling, purple spots, fever, severe illness or involvement of the eyes or mouth.

Ask what features support the diagnosis, whether a skin scraping or medicine review is needed, which product is safe to use, and what change should trigger follow-up.
