Moles Under the Breast: What to Watch For

Skin under the breast can experience warmth, moisture, rubbing from clothing, and occasional irritation. Those factors may make a mole feel sore or make its surface look different after rubbing, but they do not explain every change. A mole that becomes asymmetric, develops an uneven edge, shows mixed shades, enlarges, crusts, or bleeds still needs a proper examination. Most moles are benign; a change in a mole is the reason to seek assessment, not proof of cancer.

Use a mirror or ask a trusted person to help you inspect the area in good light. Keep the skin gently clean and dry, and choose clothing that reduces rubbing if the spot is irritated. Record the date and nature of any change, and take a private, clear photograph for comparison. Do not scratch, shave across, tie off, or apply chemical products to the mole. A clinician can discuss monitoring or removal and may arrange tissue assessment when needed.

Arrange an appointment for a mole that is changing, persistently itchy or painful, repeatedly irritated, crusted, or bleeding. Seek quicker advice for rapid change, a sore that does not heal, or bleeding that does not settle with gentle pressure. Mention any personal history of skin cancer and whether close relatives have had melanoma, as this helps the clinician plan the examination.

Ask whether friction appears to be affecting the mole, whether it needs dermoscopic review, and whether monitoring or removal is more suitable. If removal is discussed, ask how the wound will be protected from rubbing and whether the tissue will be examined in a laboratory.
