Missed miscarriage: how many weeks can it happen?

A missed miscarriage can be diagnosed in early pregnancy when an ultrasound shows that development has stopped, even if bleeding has not started. It is sometimes called a silent or delayed miscarriage. The pregnancy may have stopped developing several days or weeks before it is identified, so the scan findings and the dates based on your last menstrual period may not match.
