What should you know about misoprostol 100 mcg?

Misoprostol affects the uterus and cervix. Clinicians may use it in medical management of miscarriage or as part of induction of labour, but those situations require different assessment and instructions. The same tablet strength does not make the uses interchangeable. The prescribed route may be by mouth, under the tongue, inside the cheek, or vaginally, depending on the plan. Cramping, bleeding, nausea, diarrhoea, chills, or a temporary fever can occur.

Use misoprostol only under a qualified clinician’s instructions. Confirm the reason for treatment, the exact route, timing, and what to do if a dose is vomited or symptoms do not change. Check the packaging and strength before use, and do not substitute tablets or combine medicines without advice. Keep access to follow-up care and record bleeding, pain, temperature, and any tissue passed. If pregnancy location has not been assessed, ask about this before treatment.

Seek urgent help for severe or one-sided pain, fainting, marked weakness, very heavy bleeding, fever that persists, foul-smelling discharge, breathing difficulty, or an allergic reaction. Contact the treating service if pain or bleeding is increasing, if you feel unwell, or if expected follow-up has not been arranged. Emergency assessment is especially important when an ectopic pregnancy has not been excluded.

Ask why misoprostol is being used, which route is intended, when effects should begin, which symptoms are expected, and how completion will be checked. Also ask which medicines or conditions could change the plan and who to contact outside clinic hours.
