What should you know about mineral based sun screen?

Short answer
Mineral sunscreen uses zinc oxide or titanium dioxide to sit on the skin and reduce ultraviolet exposure when applied and reapplied properly.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How mineral sunscreen helps
Mineral filters form a protective layer that reflects, scatters, and absorbs parts of ultraviolet radiation. They can be useful for daily exposed skin and for people who prefer to avoid certain chemical filters. A product may leave a visible cast, especially on deeper skin tones, although tinted and finely dispersed formulas may blend more easily. Sunscreen does not block every exposure or replace shade and protective clothing.
Using it well
Apply a generous, even layer to exposed skin before going outdoors, including often-missed areas such as ears, hairline, neck, and backs of hands. Reapply after swimming, sweating, towelling, or prolonged outdoor time, following the label. Add shade, a hat, sunglasses, and clothing when possible. Patch-test a new product if your skin reacts easily, and choose a formula suited to your skin and activity. See Mineral Sunscreen for more detail.
When to seek care
Stop using a product and seek advice for persistent burning, swelling, blistering, or a spreading rash. Arrange a skin examination for a sore that does not heal, a spot that changes in colour or shape, or a new lesion that repeatedly bleeds. Sun protection supports prevention but does not diagnose or treat an existing skin cancer.
Questions for your doctor
Ask which filter and formulation suit your skin, whether a tinted option may help with visible residue, and how to protect a scar, melasma, or photosensitive condition. Ask how often to reapply during your usual work, exercise, or beach routine.

Questions people ask
Is mineral sunscreen only for sensitive skin?
No. It may suit many skin types, but the best choice depends on formulation, comfort, allergies, and your routine.
Can sunscreen replace a hat or shade?
No. Layering sunscreen with shade and protective clothing reduces exposure more reliably than relying on one measure.
