Miliaria as a skin rash

Miliaria often appears after heat, sweating, or occlusion. The rash may affect the neck, chest, back, waist, or skin folds and can feel itchy or prickly. Clearer superficial spots and deeper red bumps are possible. A rash alone does not identify one diagnosis: Atopic Dermatitis, Contact Dermatitis, Drug Rash, Intertrigo, Psoriasis, Ringworm, and Scabies can have different patterns and triggers.

Cool the skin, change out of damp clothing, and choose loose breathable fabrics. Clean gently, pat dry, and reduce rubbing from straps or tight seams. Avoid scratching and heavy fragranced or greasy products over the rash. Note where it started, what preceded it, and whether it changes with cooling; those details help a clinician assess the eruption.

Arrange an assessment if the rash persists despite cooling, recurs without an obvious heat trigger, or becomes painful, swollen, crusted, or weepy. Fever, feeling very unwell, facial swelling, breathing difficulty, blistering, or rapid spread needs prompt medical attention. A clinician may examine the skin and review new medicines, products, contacts, travel, and household symptoms.
