What should you know about mid menstrual cycle spotting?

Write down when the spotting starts, its colour, how much there is, how long it lasts, and whether it follows sex or occurs with pain, discharge, fever, or dizziness. Consider a pregnancy test if pregnancy is possible. Arrange a clinician visit if the bleeding repeats, continues, follows sex, or has no clear explanation. Assessment may include a pregnancy test, pelvic examination, infection testing, and cervical screening according to your situation. Treatment depends on the cause; do not stop prescribed contraception without advice.

Seek urgent medical care for heavy bleeding, faintness, severe or one-sided pelvic pain, shoulder-tip pain, fever, or bleeding during a possible pregnancy. These features can signal a problem that needs prompt examination. If you have gone through menopause, any vaginal bleeding should be assessed even when it is light.
