Is mesotherapy FDA approved? What to know

A mesotherapy session may involve a single substance or a mixture injected into the skin. The word mesotherapy alone does not tell you whether a particular formulation is authorised for a particular cosmetic purpose. Approval or authorisation can apply to a named product and use, not automatically to every mixture, body area, or injection technique.

Ask the clinic to name every ingredient and show the product label. Products compounded, imported, mixed in-house, or marketed with broad claims need especially careful discussion. A product being available in a clinic does not by itself establish that it is authorised for your intended use.

Request the product name, manufacturer, ingredient list, lot information, storage details, and stated intended use. Confirm who will prescribe and inject it and whether the practitioner has experience with the planned area. Discuss allergies, medicines, bleeding or healing problems, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and previous injectables.

Read the consent information and ask about alternatives, aftercare, and follow-up. Be cautious if you are pressured to proceed without identifying the product or if claims promise a guaranteed outcome. Keep the packaging or a written record in case you need medical advice later.

Contact the clinic for increasing pain, spreading redness, warmth, discharge, fever, severe swelling, or skin breakdown. Seek urgent help for breathing or swallowing difficulty, fainting, new weakness, or sudden changes in vision after an injection.

What exact product is being used, and what is it authorised or intended to do? Is the planned treatment area covered by that use? What alternatives are available? How will you respond if I have an allergic reaction, infection, or unexpected tissue injury?
