What should you know about Mepact and osteosarcoma?

Mepact contains mifamurtide and is given by infusion. It activates parts of the immune system, which can then respond to signals associated with tumour cells. Its role is different from chemotherapy, which uses medicines that directly affect rapidly dividing cells.

Osteosarcoma care commonly combines several approaches. Surgery may remove the tumour, while chemotherapy can be used before or after an operation depending on the treatment plan. Whether Mepact is appropriate depends on age, diagnosis, previous treatment, health conditions, local practice, and the oncology team’s assessment.

Ask the oncology team how Mepact fits with your operation and chemotherapy schedule, how the infusion is given, and how symptoms will be monitored. Tell them about allergies, autoimmune conditions, infections, regular medicines, and any previous infusion reaction. Keep a record of fever, chills, pain, nausea, or changes that follow treatment.
