What should you know about imiquimod face?

Imiquimod is a topical medicine that activates immune activity in treated skin. Facial skin may become red, dry, swollen, crusted, itchy, or tender while the medicine is working. The reaction can be more noticeable around the eyes, nose, and mouth because these areas are sensitive. Do not assume every spot is suitable for treatment: a clinician should identify the lesion and confirm that imiquimod is appropriate.

Follow the prescribed amount, schedule, and contact time. Apply to clean, dry skin and wash your hands afterwards unless your clinician gives different instructions. Keep it away from the eyes, lips, nostrils, broken skin, and untreated areas. Avoid adding scrubs, acids, retinoids, or other irritating products unless approved. Sun protection and a bland moisturiser may make the skin more comfortable, but do not cover the area with an occlusive dressing without advice.

Seek prompt medical advice for spreading swelling, severe pain, pus, fever, marked facial swelling, eye symptoms, or difficulty breathing. Pause and contact the prescriber if the reaction is difficult to tolerate or if you are unsure whether to continue. A lesion that changes quickly, bleeds repeatedly, or fails to improve also needs reassessment rather than extra applications.

Ask which lesion is being treated, how long the cream should remain on the skin, what reaction is expected, and which products can be used for comfort. Clarify what to do after a missed application and whether treatment should change near the eyelids or lips.
