What should you know about IgM MGUS?

IgM is an antibody class made by immune cells. With IgM MGUS, a clone of cells produces one matching IgM protein. This label is not, by itself, a diagnosis of lymphoma or another active cancer.

Assessment may include blood counts, kidney function, protein testing, free light chains, and an examination for enlarged lymph nodes or an enlarged spleen. The clinician may also ask about headaches, vision changes, cold sensitivity, numbness, or bleeding because IgM-related effects can involve circulation or nerves.

Follow the monitoring plan and keep copies of laboratory results. Tell your clinician about infections, new medicines, and any change in exercise tolerance or sensation in your hands and feet.

Do not assume that an IgM result requires immediate treatment. The decision depends on symptoms, examination findings, laboratory changes, and whether the protein is affecting an organ.

Contact your care team promptly for new numbness, unusual bleeding, worsening fatigue, enlarged lumps, headaches, or vision changes. Seek emergency help for sudden vision loss, chest pain, severe breathlessness, one-sided weakness, or confusion.
