HydraFacial for blackhead removal: what to know

A blackhead is an open clogged pore containing oil and dead skin cells; its dark appearance comes from exposure to air rather than surface dirt. HydraFacial uses a device to cleanse, exfoliate and draw out loosened debris with fluid-assisted suction. It may smooth the surface and clear some congestion, but it does not stop oil production or the process that forms new plugs. Some dark dots are sebaceous filaments, a normal pore feature that can refill after removal.

Have the provider identify whether the spots are blackheads, sebaceous filaments, inflamed acne or another lesion before extraction. Tell them about acne medicines, sensitive skin, eczema, allergies and previous pigment changes.
