How long does physiotherapy take to work for flat feet?

Short answer
Physiotherapy may improve comfort and foot control after several weeks, but meaningful strength and activity changes commonly require consistent work over several months.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Early response
- Comfort and control may change after several weeks.
- Training effect
- Strength and activity gains often take several months.
- Treatment target
- Function and symptoms, not arch appearance alone.
What improvement can look like
Flat feet describe a lowered or less visible arch, but treatment is guided by symptoms and function rather than the arch appearance alone. Sessions may address calf flexibility, ankle movement, balance, foot-muscle control and the way the leg handles load. You might notice easier walking, less aching after standing, or better control during stairs before the foot shape looks different. Some flexible flat feet need no treatment when they cause no problems.
Building progress safely
Use the exercises in the dose prescribed and wear supportive footwear if your clinician recommends it. Increase walking, running or standing gradually rather than changing several activities at once. Bring examples of the tasks that provoke symptoms, such as long shifts, sport or uneven-ground walking, so the plan can target them. Reassess if the programme is not changing comfort or function after a reasonable trial. When to arrange a review
Arrange medical review for new or rapidly worsening pain, swelling, numbness, weakness, or difficulty bearing weight. One-sided change in the arch, pain after an injury, or symptoms that prevent normal walking deserves assessment because the cause may need more than an exercise adjustment. Seek urgent care for a cold or pale foot, severe injury, or sudden loss of sensation.
Questions to ask
Are my flat feet flexible or stiff? Which muscles or movements are limiting my activities? Would footwear or an insert complement the exercises? When should I increase walking or sport? What signs mean I should pause the programme?

Questions people ask
Will physiotherapy raise my arch?
It may improve muscle control and comfort, but therapy does not necessarily change the shape of a foot that has always been flat.
Should I stop exercise because of flat feet?
Usually the goal is to modify load and build capacity, unless pain, swelling or another warning sign requires assessment.
