How long does cervical screening test take to work for cervical ectropion?

Cervical ectropion happens when delicate cells from inside the cervical canal are visible on the outer surface of the cervix. Screening is designed to look for HPV and abnormal cervical cells, not to remove or seal the exposed area. A result that does not show concerning changes does not make symptoms disappear, and a result needing review does not by itself confirm cancer.

Bleeding after sex or between periods can occur with cervical ectropion, but those symptoms can have other causes. The clinician may consider your examination, symptoms, screening result and medical history together.

Attend the screening appointment as arranged and tell the clinician about bleeding, discharge, pain, pregnancy possibility or previous abnormal results. Ask when your result should arrive and how you will be contacted. If ectropion symptoms continue, a clinician may discuss observation or an examination to look for another cause; treatment is considered only when symptoms are troublesome and other causes have been assessed.

Arrange medical review for bleeding after sex, bleeding between periods, unusual discharge or pelvic pain, especially if the symptom is new or persistent. Seek urgent care for heavy bleeding, severe pelvic pain, fainting, fever with worsening pain or possible pregnancy with pain or bleeding.
