How is vertigo treated?

A clinician asks whether the room spins, what movements trigger it, how long episodes last, and whether hearing changes, headache, nausea or ear symptoms occur. Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo often responds to an Epley Manoeuvre, which guides displaced inner-ear particles into a different position.

Labyrinthitis, Meniere's Disease, Middle Ear Infection and Migraine can need different care. Treatment may include prescribed medicine for nausea or dizziness, ear treatment, migraine management, or balance rehabilitation. Do not drive, climb or operate machinery while an episode affects you.

Get emergency help for vertigo with facial drooping, one-sided weakness or numbness, trouble speaking, fainting, severe new headache, chest pain, or inability to walk safely. Prompt review is also needed after a head injury, with sudden hearing loss, or when repeated vomiting prevents drinking.
