How effective is microdiscectomy for herniated disc?

A herniated disc can irritate or compress a nerve root, causing pain that travels into the buttock or leg, tingling, numbness, or weakness. Following surgery, contact the surgical service promptly for increasing weakness, new bladder or bowel symptoms, fever, wound redness or drainage, or severe calf swelling. Sudden chest pain or breathlessness needs emergency care.
