What should you know about hooded eyelids aging?

Short answer
As skin and supporting tissues change with age, the upper eyelid may look more hooded; treatment depends on whether skin, brow position or eyelid function is involved.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How ageing changes the upper eyelid
With age, skin can lose elasticity and fold over the upper-lid crease. Brow descent, changes in soft tissue and reduced eyelid muscle support can add to the hooded appearance. Dermatochalasis describes excess eyelid skin, but a new or rapidly changing droop should not be assumed to be age-related.
Sagging skin around the face may occur alongside eyelid changes. Plasma pen treatment or radiofrequency skin tightening may be discussed for selected superficial laxity, while eyelid surgery addresses tissue through a surgical plan.
A sensible next step
Compare old photographs with your current appearance and note whether the change is one-sided, affects vision, causes eye strain or makes the eyes dry. A clinician can examine the eyelids, brows, pupils, eye movements and ability to close the eyes. Mention thyroid disease, nerve symptoms, previous surgery and all eye drops or medicines.
Use sun protection and gentle skin care to reduce additional irritation, but creams cannot reposition descended tissue. Before any procedure, ask about downtime, eye-surface care, scars, asymmetry and follow-up.
When to seek medical care
Arrange prompt medical review for a sudden droop, a droop on one side, double vision, unequal pupils, facial weakness or a severe headache. After treatment, seek urgent help for vision loss, severe eye pain, inability to close the eye or rapidly worsening swelling.
Questions for your doctor
Does this look like excess skin, brow descent or muscle weakness? Is my vision or eye surface affected? Which treatment matches the cause? How will dry eye and eye closure be protected? What change would require urgent assessment?

Questions people ask
Are hooded eyelids always a normal part of ageing?
No. Gradual changes may relate to ageing, but sudden or one-sided drooping needs medical assessment.
Can skin tightening reverse age-related hooding?
It may improve selected superficial laxity, but it cannot address every cause, such as brow descent or eyelid muscle weakness.
