What should you know about hooded eyelid procedure?

Hooding may reflect dermatochalasis, in which extra upper-eyelid skin folds over the crease. A low or heavy brow can add to the effect, and changes in skin elasticity may make the fold more noticeable. One side can differ from the other. Hooding is often a cosmetic concern, but an overhanging fold can sometimes interfere with the upper field of vision.

Non-surgical options such as plasma pen treatment or radiofrequency skin tightening aim to alter or tighten selected superficial tissues. Eyelid surgery removes or reshapes tissue and needs a surgical assessment. Sagging skin around the face may be part of the overall examination.

Bring a list of medicines, allergies, previous eye procedures and conditions such as dry eye. Tell the clinician about contact lens use and any change in vision. Ask for an examination of eyelid movement, brow position, skin folds and the visual field when relevant. Request a clear plan for anaesthesia, wound care, downtime, expected asymmetry and follow-up.

Use only products and medicines advised by your clinician around the eyes. Avoid rubbing healing skin, and protect the area from sun as it recovers. A procedure aimed at appearance may not correct a drooping eyelid caused by the lifting muscle, so the diagnosis matters.

After treatment, report increasing redness, discharge, fever, worsening pain or wound separation. Seek urgent care for sudden vision loss or blurring, severe eye pain, inability to close the eye, double vision or rapidly expanding swelling.
