Hives in a line: what it can mean

A raised line may develop where clothing, a strap, a fingernail, or another object pressed or rubbed the skin. Some people develop temporary welts after light scratching or stroking. A contact reaction may follow the edge of a product or material, while insect bites can also appear in a grouped or linear pattern. Look for whether marks move, fade, itch, blister, or remain fixed; these details help distinguish hives from another skin rash.

Remove tight or new clothing and stop any newly introduced skin product until you have advice. Wash gently, avoid scratching, and use a cool compress. Photograph the line beside an ordinary object for scale, then record when it appeared and what touched or pressed the area.
