HFMD rash on the body: what to consider

Rashes in skin folds are exposed to moisture and friction, while areas covered by clothing may react to heat, sweat, or fabric products. A sharply outlined patch where a product touched the skin can fit contact dermatitis. Scaly lesions with a more defined edge can occur with ringworm. Widespread change after a new medicine needs medical review for a drug eruption. Eczema and psoriasis can affect several body sites, and scabies may involve characteristic areas and close contacts.

Map the affected areas and photograph them before applying new products. Clean gently, dry skin folds carefully, and choose loose clothing. Avoid sharing towels, razors, or clothing. Do not peel blisters or use leftover prescription creams, because the wrong treatment can mask important features or irritate skin. Make a list of medicines, supplements, detergents, and recent travel or contact exposures for the appointment.

Seek emergency help for breathing trouble, facial or tongue swelling, faintness, or a rash with rapidly peeling or blistering skin. Arrange urgent assessment for fever, a fast-spreading rash, severe tenderness, purple or dark spots that do not fade with pressure, eye or mouth involvement, or pus and red streaks. A persistent, recurrent, or unexplained widespread rash also merits a clinical review.
