Antibodies are proteins made by the immune system after contact with hepatitis C. They can remain detectable after the infection has cleared, so an antibody-positive result is not the same as proof that virus is currently present.

A clinician usually interprets the result with a test that looks for the virus itself, together with your history and liver assessment. Symptoms such as fatigue are possible but are not specific enough to explain the result.
