Hepatitis B vaccine second dose: what to know

The first dose introduces the immune system to hepatitis B virus markers. A later dose reinforces that response, so the course is designed as a sequence rather than a single visit. The interval depends on the vaccine product, your age, your health, and the schedule selected by the clinician. Check the date written on your card or clinic record instead of relying on memory.

A delayed second dose does not mean you should repeat earlier doses without advice. Hepatitis B itself can affect the liver and may have few early symptoms. Fatigue or dark urine should be assessed on their own merits, not used to decide whether a vaccine dose is needed.

Take the first-dose record to the appointment and tell the vaccinator about pregnancy, immune-suppressing treatment, allergies, and any illness on the day.
