What does HBsAg positive mean?

HBsAg is a marker found on the surface of the hepatitis B virus. Its detection suggests a current infection, but the result alone does not show whether the infection is recent or persistent, how active it is, or how much the liver is affected. Clinicians interpret it alongside other hepatitis B markers, liver function tests, and sometimes additional assessments. You may have no symptoms; when symptoms occur, fatigue, nausea, abdominal discomfort, or dark urine can be present.
