What should you know about hepatitis B caused due to?

Transmission can occur during sex, through shared needles or equipment, from an unsterile piercing or tattoo instrument, or from a pregnant person to a baby around birth. The virus may remain in the body without obvious symptoms. Household and sexual contacts can ask about hepatitis B vaccination. Avoid alcohol and check before taking medicines or supplements because the liver processes many of them.

Seek urgent medical help for new yellow skin or eyes, very dark urine with marked illness, confusion, severe vomiting, unusual sleepiness, or intense abdominal pain. A possible recent exposure should also be discussed quickly because preventive care may be time-sensitive. Emergency symptoms such as collapse, difficulty staying awake or severe bleeding need emergency services.

Ask which hepatitis B blood tests you need, whether a liver function test is appropriate, how to protect people at home, and whether vaccination is recommended for your contacts. If a test is positive, ask whether the infection appears recent or persistent and when follow-up liver checks should happen.
