Hepatitis B three-dose series: what to know

Each dose is part of the same vaccination course. The first starts the immune response, later doses strengthen and maintain it. The schedule selected by your clinician can depend on age, health, occupation, travel, and whether there has been a recent exposure. This vaccine prevents hepatitis B; it does not clear an infection already present.

A missed appointment does not mean the whole course must be repeated automatically. The clinic can review dates and give the next appropriate dose. Mild arm soreness, fever, or tiredness may follow vaccination. Report a previous serious reaction before continuing.

Save every appointment and keep a written or digital record of the product and date. Tell the clinic about vaccines received elsewhere, immune problems, pregnancy, allergies, or medicines that affect immunity. Until your clinician confirms protection, continue precautions against blood and sexual exposure. If fatigue or dark urine develops, arrange assessment rather than waiting for the next injection.

Get emergency help for breathing difficulty, throat or facial swelling, collapse, or rapidly spreading hives after a dose. Seek prompt clinical advice for severe or persistent symptoms, marked weakness, yellowing of the eyes, or dark urine. These symptoms need assessment and should not be attributed to vaccination without review.
