What should you know about Hello Fever Com?

Short answer
Fever is a raised body temperature and a sign of an underlying process, often an infection, rather than a diagnosis on its own.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What fever can mean
Fever may occur with a common cold, acute bronchitis, COVID-19, chickenpox or croup. Bronchiolitis can cause fever in young children, while cellulitis can cause fever with a hot, painful area of skin. Brucellosis is another possible cause in particular exposure settings. The pattern of symptoms, recent contacts, travel, medicines and examination helps a clinician work out the likely cause. A fever does not by itself prove any one condition.
Comfort and monitoring
Rest, drink fluids regularly and use light clothing and bedding if you feel overheated. Check your temperature with a reliable thermometer and note when it started, how it changes and any associated cough, rash, pain, vomiting or breathing difficulty. Use fever medicine only as directed on the label or by a clinician, taking account of age, pregnancy, allergies and other medicines. Avoid giving aspirin to children unless a clinician specifically advises it.
When to seek medical care
Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, confusion, a seizure, severe dehydration, a stiff neck, a purple or rapidly spreading rash, or a child who is unusually difficult to wake. Prompt assessment is also needed when fever occurs in a very young infant, follows significant travel or animal exposure, or persists with worsening symptoms. Contact a clinician if the person cannot keep fluids down or has a weakened immune system.
Questions for your doctor
Ask what cause fits the complete symptom pattern, whether testing is needed, and how often to check temperature. Confirm the appropriate medicine and dose for the person’s age and health, and ask which changes should lead to urgent review.

Questions people ask
Does fever always mean a serious illness?
No. Fever can accompany minor infections, but severity depends on the person, associated symptoms, duration and exposure history.
Should every fever be lowered?
The aim is comfort and safe hydration. Follow age-appropriate medical advice rather than treating a number alone.
