What should you know about Heliocare and melasma?

How the structures involved in Melasma differ from normal

Short answer

Heliocare may complement melasma care, but consistent sun protection and a clinician-guided plan remain central to managing facial pigmentation.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Melasma and light exposure

Melasma is a pigment condition that often appears as fairly even brown patches on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip or jawline. Sunlight can deepen the colour, and visible light may also matter for some people. Heliocare products commonly contain fern-derived antioxidant ingredients intended to support photoprotection from within. They do not erase existing pigment and should not replace sunscreen, shade, hats or sensible limits on direct exposure. Dark patches can have other causes, so a diagnosis should come before a treatment plan.

Building a practical routine

Use broad-spectrum sunscreen as directed, reapply when appropriate, and consider a tinted formula if your clinician recommends protection against visible light. A hat and shade add useful protection outdoors. Introduce brightening products cautiously because irritation can make pigmentation look darker. A dermatologist may discuss topical medicines or procedures such as a chemical peel, microneedling, skin brightening treatment or laser toning, based on your skin type, pregnancy status and history of sensitivity. Take baseline photographs so changes are easier to judge.

When to have patches checked

Arrange a clinical review if pigmentation is new, one-sided, rapidly changing, itchy, scaly, bleeding or unlike your usual patches. Seek advice before taking an oral supplement if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have chronic illness or use regular medicines. Stop a product and seek care for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, widespread hives or severe skin irritation. Melasma often needs ongoing maintenance, so worsening colour does not mean you should simply increase products or treatment intensity.

Questions for your dermatologist

Ask whether the pattern is melasma, which type of sunscreen and pigment treatment suits your skin, and whether Heliocare is appropriate with your medicines or pregnancy plans. Ask how to space procedures, what irritation looks like, and what maintenance routine can reduce relapse.
