HEINE BETA otoscope: what it is used for

During an ear examination, a suitable speculum is placed at the entrance of the canal while the clinician looks through the instrument. The view may show wax, canal irritation, fluid, discharge, a foreign body, or an eardrum that looks inflamed or pulled inward. The findings must be interpreted alongside the person’s pain, temperature, hearing, and recent illness.

Describe the timing and pattern of ear symptoms, including blocked hearing, ringing, discharge, itching, or dizziness. Mention previous ear surgery, a known hole in the eardrum, or pain after inserting anything into the ear. Keep your head steady and say if the examination is uncomfortable. Avoid self-cleaning deep inside the canal, because this can push wax inward or injure delicate skin.

Book an assessment for ongoing earache, new hearing difficulty, recurrent discharge, or a child who is unusually unsettled with ear symptoms. Seek urgent advice for sudden hearing loss, severe spinning dizziness, marked swelling around the ear, or an ear injury with bleeding. The clinician can determine whether the view is clear and whether further care is needed.
