Heat stroke symptoms the next day

Headache, weakness, dizziness, nausea, thirst, muscle aches or difficulty concentrating may remain after a hot day. These symptoms can reflect heat exhaustion, but heat stroke is more serious and can affect the brain, kidneys and other organs. Feeling cooler the next morning does not establish that recovery is complete. Fever, vomiting or confusion also need consideration of other causes.

Rest in a cool place, avoid alcohol and strenuous activity, and take frequent small sips only if you are fully alert and not vomiting. Arrange same-day clinical advice for ongoing symptoms and describe the heat exposure, activity, fluids, medicines and any change in awareness. Do not return to intense exercise simply because the skin feels normal.

Call emergency services for confusion, fainting, seizure, repeated vomiting, severe headache, breathing trouble, inability to drink or worsening weakness. Seek prompt care for very little urine, persistent dizziness on standing or symptoms that are not settling. A clinician can decide whether examination, observation or IV Fluid Therapy is needed.

Ask whether the episode was heat exhaustion or heat stroke, which symptoms should trigger escalation, how to replace fluids safely, and when work, travel or exercise can resume. Ask if a follow-up check is needed.
