Heat rash on the hands: symptoms and care

You may notice tiny bumps, redness, or a burning-prickling feeling on the backs of the hands, between the fingers, or beneath a glove. Heat, humid air, repeated handwashing, and tight protective equipment can leave the skin warm and damp. The appearance can overlap with eczema or contact dermatitis, particularly when there is cracking, scaling, or a clear connection with soap, rubber, or chemicals. Remove damp gloves when safe, wash with a mild fragrance-free cleanser, and dry carefully between the fingers. Cool the hands with a brief cool-water rinse or a cool cloth. Avoid scratching, thick occlusive ointments, fragranced sanitizer, and very hot water while the skin is irritated. Use breathable gloves and take suitable breaks from hand coverings. Contact a clinician if the hand rash persists despite cooling, spreads, repeatedly returns, or interferes with work, sleep, or grip. Seek urgent help if swelling affects the lips or face, breathing becomes difficult, or blisters are widespread.
