Heat rash and itchy skin: what to know

Dry skin can cause itch and fine scaling, while atopic dermatitis or contact dermatitis may cause inflamed, irritated patches. A yeast infection can affect moist folds; psoriasis or lichen planus can create persistent patterned areas. Hives tend to form raised, changing welts, and scabies often causes intense itch with a characteristic spread. These possibilities are not diagnoses from symptoms alone.

Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser, keep the skin cool, and pat it dry after washing. Apply a plain moisturizer to dry areas if it does not sting, and avoid scratching, new cosmetics, and irritating fabrics. Note where the itch began, whether it follows heat, and whether anyone close to you is itchy. A clinician can select treatment after examining the skin.

Book an assessment when itching persists, spreads, disrupts sleep, or returns without a clear heat trigger. Seek prompt care for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, fever, pus, rapidly spreading redness, severe pain, or blistering.
