What should you know about heat rash from bra?

The band, cups, seams, and straps can hold moisture against the under-breast skin, chest, shoulders, or back. Heat rash may look like prickly red spots, tiny bumps, or small fluid-filled blisters and may sting or itch. A bra-related rash can also reflect irritation from detergent, dye, elastic, or a personal-care product. Skin rash, skin redness, and skin bumps describe findings rather than proving that heat rash is the cause.

Change out of the damp bra and wash the area gently with cool or lukewarm water. Pat dry carefully, including skin folds, and wear a clean, breathable, less restrictive garment while the irritation settles. Wash bras with a mild, fragrance-free detergent and rinse well; avoid fabric softener on clothing touching the rash. Do not apply perfume, deodorant, or thick oily products to the affected skin. If chafing or dryness continues, a clinician can advise whether emollient therapy fits. Do not use topical corticosteroids under the breasts without professional guidance, especially if the rash may be infected.

Book an assessment if the rash repeatedly follows bra use, involves broken skin, smells unusual, oozes, or fails to improve after the garment and detergent are changed. Seek prompt care for spreading warmth and redness, increasing pain, fever, or pus. Emergency help is needed for breathing difficulty or swelling of the lips, face, or tongue.

Ask whether the pattern suggests heat rash, contact irritation, chafing, or another condition; whether your bra fit or fabric may contribute; and what product is safe for the area. Bring a list of new detergents, cosmetics, medicines, and symptoms.
