What should you know about heat rash and sore throat?

Heat rash causes small itchy or prickly spots where sweat collects, such as skin folds or under tight clothing. A sore throat may instead reflect a Common Cold, Influenza, COVID-19, Tonsillitis, Strep Throat, Glandular Fever, Allergic Rhinitis, or irritation from Acid Reflux. Some infections can cause both throat symptoms and a widespread rash, so note fever, cough, swollen neck glands, mouth changes, and whether the rash blanches when pressed. A heat rash itself does not prove that an infection is present.

Move to a cooler place, keep the skin dry, wear loose breathable clothing, and avoid thick ointments that trap sweat. Cool compresses can soothe itching; do not scratch or share towels. Rest, drink fluids, and choose soothing drinks or soft foods for the throat. Follow local advice about testing when respiratory infection is possible, and check with a pharmacist before giving a child any medicine.

Seek urgent help for trouble breathing or swallowing, drooling, a muffled voice, swelling of the lips or tongue, severe weakness, confusion, or a rapidly spreading purple or blistering rash. Arrange medical review for a high or persistent fever, dehydration, marked one-sided throat pain, or a rash that is painful, infected-looking, or not improving after cooling the skin. A clinician may need to examine the throat and skin together.
