What should you know about heat causes itching?

Short answer
Heat can cause itching by increasing sweat, drying the skin, or triggering hives, but persistent itch needs assessment for other skin conditions.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why warmth may itch
Sweat, salt, and friction can irritate the skin when you are hot. Heat may also worsen dry skin or an existing inflammatory condition. Small prickly bumps suggest Heat Rash, while raised, temporary welts can fit Hives. Atopic Dermatitis, Asteatotic Eczema, Contact Dermatitis, Psoriasis, Lichen Planus, or a Skin Yeast Infection may also itch, with different patterns and treatments. Itching that is especially intense at night or affects close contacts deserves a check for Scabies.
Ways to ease the itch
Cool the room and skin, take a brief lukewarm shower, and pat dry. Apply a plain, fragrance-free moisturiser while the skin is slightly damp. Choose loose, breathable clothing and change out of sweaty garments. Keep nails short and use a cool compress instead of scratching. Avoid new scented products until the cause is clearer; a pharmacist or clinician can advise whether an antihistamine or another treatment is suitable for you.
When to get medical help
Seek emergency care for itching with breathing difficulty, throat or tongue swelling, faintness, or rapidly developing widespread hives. Book an assessment if itch is severe, recurrent, disrupting sleep, accompanied by pain, scaling, pus, fever, or yellowing, or continues despite cooling and moisturising. A clinician may examine the distribution and ask about medicines, products, travel, and household contacts.
Questions for your doctor
Does the pattern fit Hives, Heat Rash, eczema, or an infection? Could any medicine or product be contributing? Which relief option is appropriate with my health conditions?
