Can heartburn cause vomiting?

Heartburn can trigger nausea and sometimes vomiting, but repeated vomiting needs medical assessment to find and treat the underlying cause. Acid moving into the throat may irritate it and create a sour taste, gagging, or queasiness. Vomiting can also worsen irritation, creating a cycle of discomfort.

Reflux occurs when stomach contents move upward into the food pipe.
