Heartburn and implantation: what should you know?

Heartburn is a burning feeling behind the breastbone caused when stomach contents move upward into the oesophagus. Implantation is an early pregnancy process, but the process itself does not provide a dependable explanation for burning after meals, a sour taste, or discomfort when lying down. Reflux can occur whether or not conception has happened. If pregnancy is possible, a home pregnancy test is more useful after a missed period than trying to interpret heartburn.

Frequent symptoms can also occur with acid reflux, gastritis, a hiatus hernia, or a peptic ulcer. These conditions have different treatments, so the pattern and accompanying symptoms matter.

Notice when symptoms occur and whether meals, lying down, tight clothing, or particular drinks make them worse. Choose smaller meals, remain upright after eating, and avoid eating close to bedtime.
