Heartburn 3 days before your period

Some people notice digestive symptoms at a similar point in each cycle, while others have heartburn because of meal choices, stress, medicines, or lying down after eating. Reflux can cause burning behind the breastbone and a sour taste. Gastritis, a hiatus hernia, and peptic ulcer are possible alternatives, particularly when pain is persistent or located in the upper abdomen. Heartburn before a period does not diagnose pregnancy or explain a delayed period on its own.

Keep meals smaller, avoid personal triggers, and remain upright after eating. Limit late meals and note whether coffee, chocolate, spicy food, rich food, or citrus makes the burning worse. Do not stop a prescribed medicine without advice, but ask whether any pain reliever or supplement could be irritating your stomach. If pregnancy is possible, obtain medicine guidance before choosing acid reflux medication.

Arrange a review if the symptom returns across cycles, becomes more frequent, or affects sleep, or if you have painful swallowing, repeated vomiting, black stools, or unexplained weight loss. Urgent care is appropriate for severe chest pressure, breathlessness, faintness, sweating, or pain extending to the arm, back, neck, or jaw.
