Hearing Tests for Each Ear: What to Know

The clinician presents tones to one ear at a time through headphones or insert earphones. You signal when you hear a sound, including very soft sounds, and may repeat words at different listening levels. Each response is recorded against the pitch being tested.

Testing each ear separately shows whether a problem affects one side, both sides, or certain pitches more than others.
