Headache, sore throat and stiff neck

A stiff neck may come from sleeping awkwardly or muscle tension, while a sore throat may accompany a Common Cold, Influenza, COVID-19, Strep Throat, or Tonsillitis. Allergic Rhinitis can irritate the throat through drainage. Glandular Fever may cause sore throat, headache, swollen neck glands, and substantial fatigue. These conditions can present with the symptoms described, but the combination cannot establish a diagnosis without considering fever, alertness, movement, swallowing, and onset.

There is a crucial difference between mild muscular tightness and neck stiffness that makes it difficult or painful to bend the neck, particularly when paired with fever, severe headache, light sensitivity, vomiting, confusion, or a rash.

Rest, drink fluids, avoid strenuous activity, and use gentle support for the neck. Do not force neck stretches or massage a painful, rigid neck.
