What should you know about headache, dizziness, cold hands and feet?

Cold surroundings, stress, low fluid intake or standing suddenly can affect circulation and produce lightheadedness. Anaemia, including Iron Deficiency Anaemia, can present with tiredness, headache, dizziness and feeling cold. Hypothyroidism may slow body processes and increase sensitivity to cold. Less commonly, reduced blood flow in the limbs can be linked with Peripheral Arterial Disease. Cold Hands and Feet can also occur without a serious underlying condition.

Sit or lie down if dizzy, rise slowly and warm your hands and feet gradually. Drink fluids and eat regular meals if you have not eaten. Avoid driving or using machinery while lightheaded. Get urgent help for fainting, chest pain, breathlessness, new weakness, trouble speaking, severe confusion, a sudden severe headache, or a hand or foot that becomes very pale, blue, painful or numb. Seek prompt care when dizziness persists, walking becomes unsafe, or symptoms are steadily worsening. A clinician can distinguish a circulation problem from anaemia or a thyroid disorder.
